BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A long awaited addition to Our Lady of the Lake hospital has landed.
The hospital in Baton Rouge welcomed its first Medi-Vac helicopter to its newly improved helipad. The helipad is part of larger expansions to the medical center that will eventually take it up to a level 1 trauma center. With only two other trauma hospitals in the state, staff believe the improvements are vital for the community.
“This is the major capitol area and we service well over 13 parishes in just our region,” Dr. Jim Rohr, Medical Director of Emergency Services, said. “And with this in mind, this is well overdue. Our volume has definitely sustained the need and given us the message that this needed to happen."
The designation as a level 2 trauma center should come in 2013 and by 2014 the Lake will be designated as a level 1 trauma center.
