This community event was started 17 years ago to brighten the Christmas Season for homeless and needy children. The Society serves large numbers of needy children yearround.
Individuals can drop off toy donations for children (infants to age 12) at our St. Vincent de Paul Dining Room located at 220 St. Vincent de Paul Place or send a financial gift to help with this year’s effort to: St. Vincent de Paul Toy Drive, P. O. Box 127, Baton Rouge, LA 70821. Anyone interested in donating toys can call (225) 383-7837, extension O for more information.
The Needy of Greater Baton Rouge, has teamed up with St. Vincent de Paul for “The St. Nicholas Challenge.” For every new gift donated or financial gift made, their organization will match it with a new gift of equal value.
St. Nicholas was Bishop of Myra in the fourth century. In keeping with the spirit with which St. Nicholas is associated, Bishop Robert Muench and community volunteers, a.k.a. St. Nick's elves, will distribute gifts to homeless and needy children on this special morning. The smiles and joyful spirit of the children when they receive their gifts is a sight to see.
The Society is one of Baton Rouge’s oldest charitable institutions, serving our community through 147 Christmas seasons, providing help to the most vulnerable.
