NBC NATIONAL NEWS — Last night, shortly after 9:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a serious injury crash that involved a pedestrian on US 61 (Airline Highway) near North Elm Street.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2007 Saturn Vue, driven by Dennis Weidus, 55, of Baton Rouge, LA, was traveling on US 61 north near North Elm Street in the right lane. A pedestrian, Chris Robertson, 45, of Kenner, LA, began to cross US 61 in the path of the Saturn.
Robertson was struck by the Saturn and transported to the Interim LSU Public Hospital Level 1 Trauma Center, where he later died due to the injuries he sustained.
Impairment and speed are not considered factors of the crash, however toxicology results are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
