EUNICE, LA (NBC33) — A mother and her friend were locked up for allegedly leaving an infant locked inside a car for more than an hour while the two were gambling.
The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that the incident was reported by a concerned citizen on Thursday, Dec. 13. Deputies responded to the 24/7 Truckstop in Eunice and found an infant locked in a vehicle located in the parking lot.
Deputies located the child’s mother, Blair Buller. She was inside of the business gambling. Officials say her friend, Anna Celeste Simoneaux, had gone with her that evening and had knowledge of the child being left in the vehicle.
Surveillance video shows the duo were inside of the business for roughly an hour and a half before it was reported to authorities.
“We encourage anyone that sees something suspicious to call us. If we would not have gotten this call from a concerned citizen, this infant could have lost his life,” Cpt. Megan Vizena, St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, said.
Both women were arrested and charged with Cruelty to a Juvenile. They were booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail.
The child was released to family members and an investigation has been launched by the Office of Child Services.
