CARENCRO, LA (NBC33) — A Carencro man with an extensive history of domestic battery is accused of striking his father at least four times with a samurai sword.
“The whole dynamics of a domestic issue are explosive,” Cpt. Kip Judice, Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office, said. “They tend to be your most volatile types of calls.”
Deputies were called to a home on the 100 block of St. Esprit Road on Wednesday, Dec. 12 at roughly 3:00 p.m. When they arrived they found the victim suffering from several “chop like injuries” to the hands, arms and head.
The victim told deputies that his son, Albert Brice Prejean, 32, struck him several times with a samurai sword. He said he was visiting his son to counsel him regarding a domestic issue.
“He lives with his mother,” Cpt. Judice said. “His dad was trying to council him to get along with his mother. He was trying to put the kid on the right path.”
While they were talking, his son walked out of the room and came back with the sword. Investigators say the victim’s wounds were defensive and believe Prejean was attempting to strike his father’s head.
Officials say Prejean received a cut to his leg as well. He allegedly fell while holding the sword, causing the wound.
Both men were transported to a local hospital for treatment. We’re told both men suffered from non-life threatening injuries and are expected to recover.
Prejean has 13 prior arrests in Lafayette Parish, including multiple charges of domestic battery or abuse. His arrests also include an OWI and DWI, resisting arrest, disturbing the peace, public intoxication, and issuing worthless checks.
Once he’s released from the hospital, Prejean will be booked into the Lafayette Parish Jail. He will be charged with Attempted Second-Degree Murder.
