BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A fundraiser is being held tonight for the family of 23 that lost almost everything in a house fire last weekend.
The Greater Mount Canaan Baptist church on Evangeline Street is hosting the benefit for the Parker family. NBC33 News has been following their story since their house burned down on Saturday.
Mary Parker says she has been overwhelmed with all the support she has gotten from the community so far, because she didn't expect it.
"I mean, ever since the fire, somebody been doing something and that surprised me,” she said. “We say we love, but that's just a word. But we’ve got to have more than a word. That heart got to show."
The church says the family needs anything you're willing to give them, including money, clothes for all ages, and furniture.
The Parkers are now living in a home provided by the church, but they still need many of the essentials.
