BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — UPDATE: The victim has been identified as David L. Hammer, 64, of League City, TX. Troopers say Hammer was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and they do not believe either driver was impaired.
ORIGINAL: A serious crash has nearly shut down both the east and westbound lanes on I-10.
Details are limited at this time. However, the Louisiana State Police advises that both lanes are shut down on I-10 between Highland Road and LA 73.
We’re told a truck was traveling westbound towards Baton Rouge and lost its trailer. The trailer then struck a vehicle in the eastbound lane. A man driving the vehicle that was struck died as a result of injuries sustained during the crash. Officials have not said how many other may have been involved.
One lane is open in the westbound and the shoulder is open in the eastbound. However, major traffic delays are expected.
“We’re working as quickly and efficiently as possible to get the roadway open,” Trooper Jared Sandifer, Louisiana State Police, said.
DOTD advises motorists to take US 61 (Airline Hwy) as an alternate route.
