SLIDELL, LA (WDSU) — A man, who police said burglarized a pet store, wasn’t able to slither too far from the scene of the crime.
Police said the man stole three snakes. But they weren’t your garden variety snakes. Police said Donald Laigast Jr. stole a Ball python and two Boa snakes after breaking into the store.
According to Slidell police, they received a call in reference to a burglary at Delta Pets store at 1370 Corporate Square on Wednesday.
The owner told police that they found the door pried open, the cash register, a $600 Ball python and two Boa snakes were missing.
After canvassing the area, police found several other businesses with pry marks on the doors.
Soon thereafter, police found a vacant building, where they found a makeshift bed along with three snakes and a jail identification card with Laigast’s name on it.
Police said Laigast was recently released from jail on other burglary charges.
Laigast was located and arrested by detectives on one count of simple burglary.
Laigast admitted to police that he broke into Delta Pets and stole the snakes as a Christmas present for his son.
