ASSUMPTION PARISH, LA (NBC33) — The body of a man who was shot during a robbery was found partially submerged in a canal.
The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that the body of Tony Rodriguez, Jr., 23, was located on Wednesday, Dec. 5 shortly before 5:00 p.m. We’re told fishermen made the discovery in the Rocky Canal located on Myles Road in Iberville Parish.
Rodriguez is believed to have been shot during a robbery attempt that happened in Belle Rose earlier this week. A second victim involved in the robbery reported the incident to authorities after he managed to escape. The victim told deputies that two armed gunmen shot Rodriguez in an abandoned house. That home was then set on fire, but the body of Rodriguez was not found among the debris.
Officials positively identified the body found in the Rocky Canal as Rodriguez and report that he had a gunshot wound to his upper chest.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday at the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office to determine the exact cause of death.
So far no suspects have been named.
