THIBODAUX, LA (NBC33) — No gold watch was given to a member of the Thibodaux Police Department for his retirement. Apparently, all he needed was a plastic bottle and a scratch behind the ear.
You guessed it. The party was for a K-9 Officer.
K-9 Slider has been a member of the Thibodaux Police Department for the past 5 years, but due to heath issues, he was forced into an early retirement. The good news is that he will get to live out his days with his partner.
“Rather than take Slider from his home, the City Council voted to sell Slider to Sgt. Chris Bourg for $1.00 earlier in November 2012,” David Melancon, Thibodaux Police Department, said. “Now, Slider can enjoy the rest of his days chasing birds, and playing with his favorite chew toy, a plastic bottle.”
During his time with the department, Slider and Sgt. Bourg have made a total of $133,880 worth of narcotic seizures. In fact, Slider’s accomplishments caught the attention of Thibodaux Mayor Tommy Eschete, who gave a farewell address at the ceremony along with Thibodaux Police Chief Scott Silverii.
For all of that hard work and dedication, Slider was presented with a plaque and a certificate, and of course the one thing he actually wanted, a bone.
