BREAUX BRIDGE, LA (NBC33) — A 17-year-old female was shot to death by a Police officer last night after she allegedly hit a person with her vehicle while attempting to flee from authorities.
The Louisiana State Police are currently investigating the case, which happened shortly before 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2. Limited details have been released at this time as to why police were called to the scene. However, we’re told the initial report was of a “disturbance.”
When officers with the Breaux Bridge Police Department arrived to the scene located in the 900 block of Landry Street, they say the suspect, Darnesha Harris of Breaux Bridge, attempted to flee in her vehicle. She allegedly struck the front of an officer’s vehicle, then placed her 2005 Toyota Corolla in reverse and struck a parked car on the roadway. Officials say she then drove her car through a ditch and struck a bystander and another vehicle.
It was after Harris hit the bystander that an officer discharged his weapon, hitting Harris. She was transported to a local hospital but later died as a result of her injury.
The bystander was also transported to the hospital with moderate injuries.
The Louisiana State Police were called in to investigate the case to make sure all protocol was followed.
