NBC News — An update was provided sunday on the condition of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. The country's Vice-President Nicolas Maduro (seen above) said Chavez was having medical treatment in Cuba "to strengthen his physical condition." He said the treatment was "specific" so that the leader could "fully recover his health."
Chavez announced last week that he would have hyperbaric oxygen treatment and physical therapy in Cuba. The therapy is designed to help patients recover from damage to nerves or muscles from radiation treatment. Chavez was diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer last year and has made several trips to Cuba for medical services. He was re-elected for a third term as president last month.
