Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — With the holidays fast approaching, e-mails claimming to be from shipping companies, such as FedEx with information about "your shipment" seem to be popping up in inboxes.
The e-mails have a link that you're supposed to click on for more information, but the Better Business Bureau says that link won't take you to FedEx or UPS.
In fact, the link won't give you any information at all.
"That link is going to be a virus thatwill attack your hard drive," stated Jim Stalls with the BBB. "It will clean all the personal inforamtion it can from you hard drive."
Once that happens, thieves have your personal information and can steal your identity.
Stalls says scams like these are especially popular this time of year, when most people are expecting holiday presents to arrive by mail.
