NBC News — Opposition flags are flying in parts of Aleppo where rebel fighters regularly conduct patrols. But the fight for the city is far from over. The Syrian observatory for human rights said 15 citizens, including women and children, were killed during a bombing in the city's main district thursday. Rebel forces say the destruction in Aleppo is up ten fold after the government started to use war planes.
Residents say the holy sites have been bombed by government aircraft and are now the site of pitched battles between the rebels and the military. Several mosques have been damaged and one Imam said that every day he fears bombs. Hundreds of thousands of Syrians have fled the country and more than two million have been displaced during the Syrian uprising.
