BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Claims checks from the BP oil spill have already reached the $1.5 billion mark.
The money, given out to those impacted economically by the spill, has been handed out since July. Already, 85,000 claims have been filed, but the company expects to be handing out much more before the claims process is through.
"But to BP's credit, they did not put a cap on this matter,” Patrick Juneau, BP claims representative, said at a presentation held at the Baton Rouge River Center. “They don't have any cap on expenditures I am to make, if people meet the test that we require them to meet."
The deadline to file a claim for those involved in the seafood industry is January of next year.
For other individuals and businesses, however, you've got until mid-2014.
