NATCHEZ, MS (WNTZ) — The driver of a horse-drawn carriage in downtown Natchez has minor injuries after a vehicle collided with the carriage, setting the horse named Mack loose on Natchez's streets.
The driver struck the carriage around 8:30 a.m., ejecting Cecil Folds, 62, of Natchez, from the carriage and breaking a rear wheel of the carriage. Mack continued to drag the carriage to his usual resting spot less than a block away.
The second rear wheel then broke on a telephone pole as Mack was dragging the carriage. It was at this point that Mack broke from his carriage support holster and ran off loose another block.
Witnesses say Mack gracefully walked up to a tourist visiting in town, who was located next to a downtown barbecue restaurant. The tourist held the horse until Adams County Sheriff's deputies arrived on the scene.
Mack was uninjured in the incident, and the carriage's damage will be covered by the vehicle driver's insurance company.
