BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — As the football season for LSU dwindles down, basketball season is heating up. First year head coach Johnny Jones and his Tigers are off to a good start. Granted the competition hasn’t been great. That will change Thursday as the team will face their toughest opponent to date as Seton Hall comes to Baton Rouge.
“I think all in all we are looking at a team that is compatible with what we will see in our conference this year,” Jones said Tuesday while meeting with the media.
“It’s very exciting. Everyone will be there eating popcorn, hotdogs and throwing stuff in the stands. We are excited for this,” guard Anthony Hickey said.
Popcorn, hotdog and drink in hand the LSU fans will get a chance to see just how competitive the 2012-13 edition of the Tigers will be. Jones says he’s been pleased with the fans support up to this point. However, Thursday night’s matchup with Seton Hall will be one to watch in terms of crowd size. The Tigers are playing at the same time the Saints are. Both games are on television. Jones can only hope his team has that important home court advantage.
“It’s a huge game for us and I think they can get the scores from the Saints game over the loudspeaker. They need to be here in the PMAC Thursday,” Jones said with a smile.
It’s still early in the season and this game won’t make or break the year. It could be a good measuring stick as to how competitive this Tiger team will be.
Tip off for the game is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
One fan will win a pair of LSU football bowl game tickets as part of a giveaway.
