BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — The Philippine embassy reports one of the oil rig workers recovering at the Baton Rouge General Bburn Center has died today.
49-year old Avelino L. Tajonera passed away early this morning following injuries sustained in the explosion and fire on the black elk energy oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico last Friday.
The Philippine embassy says in a statement on its website that he passed away just after his family arrived - his wife and three children were with him this morning when he died. His cause of death is not yet known.
Tajonera's death is the second fatality related to the November 16th accident - 42-year old Ellroy Corporal died in the incident while 28-year old Jerome Malagapo is still missing.
