BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A $15,000, 600lb., Italian marble statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was found unharmed early Friday Morning by a dumpster on Highland Road. Police tell NBC33 the statue was found around 2:30 this morning across the street from Splash, a local nightclub.
The statue, missing since this weekend, has stood outside the Roselawn Memorial Company’s building for six decades, before it was taken over the weekend.
Shelly Roy, owner of Roselawn Memorial Company, told NBC33 in an interview on Wednesday that he had never really considered securing the artisan statue because of the sheer weight of the piece. He went on to say that if the statue was returned he would most certainly secure it in place.
Baton Rouge Police have still not arrested anyone in connection with this case.
