BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Greenwell Springs Rd. from Lobdell to Victoria in Baton Rouge was shut down in both directions after a possible hazardous material spill. The road was reopened around 11:30pm. Firefighters say waste oil may have flowed out into the street and into the storm drains after firefighters put out a massive early morning fire at Baton Rouge Bus Maintenance. The bus repair shop is located near the corner of Greenwell Springs Rd. and Lobdell.
Firefighters say the place caught fire around 1:30 a.m. Officials say Baton Rouge Bus Maintenance has already hired a private company to clean up the mess.
The cause of the blaze is still unknown at this time. Fire investigators are still on scene as of 7:30 this morning. Damages are already estimated at $300,000. We're told 2 buses were also destroyed in the blaze.
