BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — An Italian marble statue of Jesus valued at $15,000 that was displayed at the Roselawn Monuments for 60 years was stolen this weekend.
The monument has been a display for the company at its located on North Street since 1950.
“It’s not something I would ever think that anybody would ever want to steal because it’s so heavy to move,” Shelly Roy, owner of Roselawn Monuments, said.
Roy estimates that the statue weighs between 600-800 lbs.
The Baton Rouge Police Department is currently investigating this case, but say they have little to go on at this time.
