EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH, LA (NBC33) — The cities of Zachary and Central went head to head [1] to collect canned goods for the Zachary Food Pantry this weekend. Organizers say the food drive was a complete success and both communities came out to show their support.
Overall, between $22 and $26-thousand raised and thousands of pounds of food was collected. Zachary and Central collected a large amount of food, but they both say the event was a win-win, for both communities.
"This was done in the spirit of fun trying to pick and have both communities come together were not that far from central so it was just great, we called it a tie,” Mayor David Amrhein, Zachary, said. “It’s kind of hard to call someone a loser in this event. We always thought it was a win-win for both."
Both Zachary and Central hope to make this pantry challenge a tradition for years to come.
