EUNICE, LA (NBC33) — Littering isn’t just an eyesore, it can land you behind bars. That’s what one man from Eunice learned after allegedly tossed his drink from the window of his car and hit a DOTD worker.
“He could have caused an accident,” Deputy Chief Varden Guillory, Eunice Police Department, said. “He could have injured the driver or hurt other people.”
Guillory tells us the incident happened shortly before 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15. We’re told a DOTD truck pulled into the parking lot of the Eunice Police Department. The driver said someone threw a drink full of liquid at him while he was driving a few blocks away on LA Hwy. 13. An officer inspected his vehicle and say his truck was covered with liquid.
The driver provided a description of the vehicle and it was located by deputies with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office. The brown Ford SUV pulling a utility trailer was being driven by Lucas Kelly, 25, of Eunice.
Because the drink actually struck the DOTD worker in the face, Kelly was charged with one count of Simple Battery. He was additionally charged with Criminal Mischief and Littering. All of the charges are misdemeanors.
The DOTD worker was not injured during the incident.
