THIBODAUX, LA (NBC33) — A man is facing nearly a dozen charges after illegal drugs were found in his vehicle during a traffic stop. The suspect allegedly hid the drugs in a child’s diaper bag, as well as asking one of the occupants of his car to stuff the drugs in her underwear.
The Thibodaux Police Department reports that the incident happened at around noon on Wednesday, Nov. 14. An officer working in the area of South Thibodaux Elementary School noticed a vehicle run through a stop sign. The officer conducted a traffic stop and the driver, Arnesto Thomas, 21, said he did not have a driver’s license.
The officer noticed a toddler was in the backseat, but was not secured in a car seat. There were two additional passengers in the vehicle. When questioned, a female passenger told the officer that Thomas handed her a bag full of crack cocaine and claimed that Thomas told her to “stuff it in her panties.” The officer conducted a search of the vehicle and recovered a pill bottle of Hydrocodone and Xanax inside of the infant’s diaper bag.
Officials say Thomas confessed that all of the illegal narcotics found in the vehicle belonged to him. He was arrested and charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Hydrocodone, Possession with Intent to Distribute Crack Cocaine, Possession with Intent to Distribute Xanax, No Driver’s License, No Seatbelt, Violation of Uniform Controlled Dangerous Substance Law (School Zone), Stop Sign Violation, Turning Signals, and Illegal Use of a Controlled Drug in the Presence of Persons Under 17 Years of Age. He was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center. His bond is set at $65,000.
