Scotlandville, La (NBC33) — Residents living near a wastewater plant in Scotlandville might soon get some financial relief.
The Metro Council is set to discuss on Wednesday whether or not to allow the parish attorney to negotiate a $6 million buyout for people who live in fifty homes near the North Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Residents say for years they have been dealing with health issues they believe are connected to the plant, and it's made their lives unbearable.
"You have flies. You have gnats in swarms. Sometimes you can't event stand outside because of it. It just draws all the unpleasant insects and what have you because of the obnoxious scent that they are drawn to,” stated Robert Jackson.
Residents who live near the plant plan to attend the Metro Council meeting on Wednesday.
