NBC News — A former oil executive has been chosen as the next spiritual leader of the world's 80 million Anglicans. Justin Welby will replace Rowan Williams as the Archbishop of Canterbury when Williams retires in December. Welby has had a speedy rise in the Anglican Church.
He quit the oil business and was ordained in 1992. He has been bishop of the English city of Durham for barely a year. Welby is seen as a supporter for the ordination of women as bishops, but an opponent of same-sex marriage, those are two of the most divisive issues facing the church
