Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — The State Department of Probation and Parole is also doing its part to keep your kids safe this Halloween night.
Teams of officers are heading to sex offenders' homes tonight to make sure they're following the law.
The agency is also holding mandatory educational meetings in some districts.
The meetings will keep sex offenders updated on the latest laws involving them. There will also be an opportunity for law enforcement to make sure sex offenders have their proper identification.
A spokesperson told us today despite the extra steps, parents need to do their part too.
"Halloween is supposed to be a fun and safe time for everybody, but it doesn't excuse parents from being responsible and making sure that they know where their kids are," stated Pam Laborde with the Louisiana Department of Corrections.
