BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — How fast could you pull a jet plane twelve feet was the question on hand at the fifth annual ARC jet pull event at Baton Rouge Metro Airport Saturday. 31 teams tried there luck getting the jet plane to go. Teams of twenty "pullers" were given nothing but a rope and some gloves to move the 179 thousand pound Boeing 747. The team with the fast time won. Event organizers say it was no easy task.
"When you're on the end of that rope you think that somebody must be stepping on the brake, but once it starts to roll it'll go," said Barry Meyer, with ARC of Baton Rouge. "It's amazing momentum will take it that twelve feet ,and it's a whole lot easier at the end than it is at the beginning."
All the proceeds for the event went toward the ARC's children services programs. Jet pull times ranged from just under 5 seconds to about 20 seconds.
