EUNICE, LA (NBC33) — A woman who was involved in a traffic crash now faces additional charges after officers discovered that she had left her child in the care of a man who was a convicted sex offender.
The Eunice Police Department reports that the incident occurred on Wednesday, Oct. 10 shortly before 3:00 p.m. We’re told officers were dispatched to the scene of a hit and run crash. The suspect, Tina Durgon, 31, returned to the scene of the crash before officers left. She told them that she had gone home to get her paperwork and documents for the car.
Durgon was arrested at the scene for Hit and Run and Reckless Operation. While she was in the booking area of the Eunice City Jail, she asked the arresting officer to send someone on her home to check on her juvenile child because school had been dismissed for the day.
An officer went to Durgon’s apartment to check on the child and discovered that an adult male was in the house as well. The officer asked the man for identification. When he provided it, the officer noted that the state issued ID had been altered.
After further investigation it was learned that the man, Kennen Sinegal, 25, was a registered sex offender for an incident that occurred on February 2, 2005 in Michigan. He was convicted of Second-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, which is the equivalent in Louisiana to Indecent Behavior with a Juvenile. He was released from prison in January 2011.
Durgon was questioned and she admitted to altering Sinegal’s identification for him. She was placed under arrest for a second time on Friday, Oct. 12 and charged with Injuring Public Records and Improper Supervision of a Minor by a Parent.
Sinegal was also arrested and charged with Maintaining False Public Records, Unlawful Presence of a Sex Offender, and Duty to Notify Law Enforcement of a Change of Address.
