Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — According to the Better Business Bureau, ID theft is the fastest growing crime in the country.
With that in mind, the organization is holding an event on Saturday at the Cortana Mall, which will allow people to shred any of their personal documents.
The event will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Last year, more than 320 people shredded almost 14 tons of documents.
Jim Stalls with the BBB stated, "In 2011, there were over 100 million victims of ID theft, with a total of $2.3 billion worth of losses - personal losses, financial losses. So, it's a big scam, and this is just one step of trying to help individuals eliminate that possibility."
