Walker, La (NBC33) — According to the warrant, Jeffrey Reynolds, 31, attacked his wife just after 11:00 a.m. When officers arrived, his wife, who was 7 and a half months pregnant, had her throat slashed and her abdomen cut with a kitchen knife.
Deborah Oubre lives just a few houses away. She said the community keeps to themselves, but this tragedy has brought them together, and has all of them wanting answers.
“It's horrible, just horrific,” stated Oubre. “It just tears me up to think about it.”
An autopsy was set to be done on the fetus on Wednesday, but the results could be days away.
In the meantime, neighbors like Oubre told NBC33 that what's thought to have happened at this house is simply unimaginable.
“The man that's supposed to love you slits your throat, cuts your baby out of your stomach, and then kills it? I can't conceive how anybody can do that,” said Oubre.
Investigators say toxicology tests from Reynolds could help answer that question.
Gareth McMurray knows Reynolds. He said the suspect in this gruesome crime was a normally responsible person, and someone who he says had his stuff together.
“It had to be a mental lapse”, said McMurray. “It had to be.”
But he and people like Oubre said mental lapse or not, they're still trying to get over the shock of this gruesome crime and find out why it happened.
"I gotta tell you, it makes me sick to my stomach."
