BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — UPDATE: In an 8-3 vote, Metro Council votes to approve relaxation of blue laws when it comes to liquor. The ordinance will go into effect when the Mayor signs it, or in 12 days if he has not signed it.
ORIGINAL: The Metro Council is set to take up East Baton Rouge’s alcohol laws. One of the initiatives, however, has been deleted from tonight’s agenda.
The Council will only discuss the initiative to repeal Baton Rouge’s Blue law, which if passed would allow Sunday sales of alcohol and allow bars to stay open until midnight.
In the past this same proposal has failed, but those attempts would have allowed bars to remain open until 2:00 a.m. Councilwoman Gary, who brought the initiative to the council, thinks she has enough support now with that compromise.

Councilman Addison, however, pulled his initiative from the agenda because the parish’s attorney is still reviewing it.
The debate over the Blue law repeal has begun. We will live tweet updates @NBC33 News.
