BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Candidates in the race to become a US Representative in the 3rd congressional District squared off in a debate this afternoon.
The Baton Rouge Press Club hosted the debate on Monday, Oct. 22. The 3rd Congressional District lines shifted after 2010 census. The new district includes areas from the southern Louisiana - Texas line into parts of Terrebonne and Lafouche parish. It combines parts of former District 7 and with 3rd District.
Republican candidates Jeff Landry of New Iberia; Bryan Barrilleaux of Lake Charles; and libertarian Jim Stark of Lake Charles participated in the debate. They all say campaign finance reform is a big issue in the race.
Republican Congressman Charles Boustany, Jr. of Lafayette, and democrat Ron Richard of Lake Charles did not attend due to scheduling conflicts.
