Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — The American Cancer Society needs your help for one of the biggest studies in its history.
The group is looking for up to half a million adults around the country, and wants to be sure the Capital Area is represented.
Enrollment begins next week for a study about what causes cancer. It will look at a long list of potential factors, including the food you eat, the amount of time you spend outside, and your genetic background.
The study will run for 20 years to track how changes in lifestyle affect cancer rates around the nation.
“When you know people with cancer, and you have people you care about with cancer, there's a certain helplessness that you feel,” stated study volunteer Kristina Little. “We all want the world to be a better place for our kids and our grandkids, and for me, this is a no-brainer."
When you enroll, they'll ask for a small blood sample and have you fill out a survey. Then, all they'll do is send you new surveys every two years.
