SHREVEPORT, La — A prisoner who escaped custody for nearly 17 hours now sits behind bars following his arrest this morning in southwest Shreveport.
On October 18, 2012 at approximately 7:14 a.m., members of the Shreveport Police Department responded to an apartment complex in the 9700 block of Baird Road in Shreveport after receiving a tip that an escaped prisoner was possibly at that location.
When officers arrived at the complex, contact was made with the wanted fugitive, who was apprehended hiding inside an apartment on the premises. Officials took into custody and arrested Craedel Cook, 39, of the 3100 block of Shed Road in Bossier City.
According to preliminary reports, Cook, who was being guarded by a private security corporation, escaped from LSUHSC on yesterday while receiving medical treatment at the hospital.
At this time, investigators are working to determine what all transpired prior to Cook's escape. Cook, who back on October 13, 2012 had been charged with possession of a schedule II narcotic, resisting an officer, and obstruction of justice, now faces additional charges of escape.
