BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Got your fill of pumpkin this October? If not, there’s still plenty of time. From coffee shops and recipes to markets, Baton Rouge locals will find a variety of pumpkin-flavored treats readily available. Below we explore just some of the more unique options:
.) Pumpkin Latte – Seasonal drinks are particularly popular during the fall season, and nowhere is it more obvious than the menus of coffee shops including CC’s and Starbucks. If you enjoy espresso, why not try mixing it with pumpkin-flavored syrup? And the great thing about the Starbucks version: It’s topped off with pumpkin pie spices. Check out other coffee houses for similar offerings.
.) Pumpkin Pie Martini – This one may take a bit more ingenuity than simply heading out and buying a finished product. “Any squash or gourd sprinkled with brown sugar is going to be amazing,” explains local Baton Rouge resident Lafon Willis. “Mix that with some vanilla vodka and you've got a dangerously delicious drink.”
.) Pumpkin Spice Coffee Cake – CC’s Community Coffee, a Louisiana legend, is providing a pumpkin-flavored coffee cake. Aside from pumpkin, ingredient flavors include cloves, cinnamon and sugar. The texture could be described as moist. Certainly a treat!
.) Pumpkin Frozen Yogurt – While many local frozen yogurt stores switch their flavors out on a routine basis, keeping your eyes open for the Pumpkin-flavored frozen treat around this time of year could be worth it.
.) Pumpkin Pancakes – Who doesn’t love the first meal of the day? Breakfast-focused restaurant IHOP recently introduced its Pumpkin Pancakes. “Carve out time for the rich flavor of these Fall-inspired pancakes. You'll enjoy four, made with real pumpkin and spices and crowned with creamy whipped topping,” the company states through its website.
.) Pumpkin Chocolate Bark – The mixtures of the chocolate and pumpkin flavors go together relatively well. Not only is it pretty (swirls of chocolate through pumpkin), it provides for a splendid treat. You could probably find a recipe for this online or make a visit to your local World Market.
