Baton Rouge (NBC 33) — In Rapides Parish, the future of an Alexandria elementary school is in jeopardy tonight after a fire left significant damage behind. It happened early this morning at the Martin Park Elementary School in Alexandria. No children were inside when the fire broke out. However, officials say the school will *not* be ready for students or faculty for days. It took about 30 firefighters to get the blaze under control. There's been no word on what caused the fire. School Board officials spent their day in a meeting deciding where to put students while the future of the building is decided.
In Ascension Parish, deputies have arrested a repeat offender. Robert Mark Hayes, 40, was arrested back in June for stalking after he was accused of driving around trying to make conversation with young girls. He bonded out after that arrest. Deputies say they just got around to searching his computer this week and found child pornography on it.
Hayes has been arrested again, this time charged with two counts of Child Pornography. Hayes is out on 50 thousand dollars bond.
In Tangipahoa Parish, another man is in jail facing several charges including Cyber Stalking and Battery of a Police Officer. Deputies say they went to Jamie Mallett's house to arrest him on cyber stalking charges, but he got away. They caught up with him at his girlfriend’s house, but still wouldn’t be arrested easily. A police dog was brought in to help flush Mallet out from his bathroom hiding place.
