BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — With her infectious smile and warm personality you would never guess that Bonnie Kate Pourciau was recently lying in a hospital bed, suffering from a gunshot wound. Thursday she greeted friends and strangers alike who came to show her their support by buying a meal at Zoe's Kitchen.
"People are loving and supporting and giving and praying and helping. You know I wasn't really thinking all the way down the road, but it's amazing to see," Pourciau explained.
The local restaurant is promising 25% of the night's profits to Bonnie Kate's recovery cause.
"It's been really awesome to just see how Baton Rouge has really stepped up, and just loved on this family and has just really responded so well to this disaster,” Jessi White, a family friend, added.
Even those who didn't know Bonnie Kate before that fateful day in July say they've come to know her story and care for her, which makes them happy to contribute what little they can to her cause.
"I think we're going to go home and tell our kids and say, 'we need to be on our knees praying for her.' because it looks like she's got a hard road to hoe still. And I am so glad to know that the fundraiser is still going on Sunday because we can tell everybody about it and tell them to come," Sheryl Womack.
As for the bubbly 18 year-old, she said she hopes the next couple of weeks and months will bring even more good news.
“A lot of times it's just a lot of hard work, and a lot of pushing through, a lot of prayer. Like 'please god just please let me get through the next couple minutes, the next couple hours.' Just let me keep pushing through the pain, and keep working hard so I’ll be able to walk again. And hopefully that will be soon," Pourciau added enthusiastically.
If you missed the opportunity to help Bonnie Kate Thursday Zoe's will be holding another fundraiser on Sunday night from 4:00PM - 9:00PM.
