NORTH BRANFORD, Conn. (CTNow) — Seven Branford teens were arrested, and one was hospitalized, after police broke up a weekend underaged drinking party in an unoccupied house.
The party was hosted by a female teen-ager who knew her grandparents would be out-of-state on vacation, police said. Many teens were drunk, they said.
Police were sent to the house at 60 Indian Hill Road about 10:20 p.m. Saturday after hearing about a large number of youths congregating in the area. When they arrived, officers saw several people running into the home and the nearby woods, police said.
They were met at the front door by a 16-year-old girl who appeared intoxicated, police said. An unconscious, male teen-ager inside was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital to be treated for alcohol poisoning.
Five of the arrested teens were found inside the house, and two were found hiding in the woods directly behind the home, police said. All were charged with possession of alcohol by a minor and turned over to the custody of their parents. All seven arrested teens were 16.
Officers learned that the homeowners were out of state and the house should not have been occupied, police said.
