JACKSONVILL, FL (WGNTV) — A trip to Florida to enjoy the Chicago bears game turned deadly for a north suburban man.
The victim is identified as William Christopher Pettry, 42, of Lake Villa. Relatives say the father of three worked in construction. He was a huge Bears fan, making the trip down to Jacksonville to see the Bears play the Jaguars.
But, Pettry never made it to the game.
Early Sunday morning, police say he was involved in a "disturbance" with two people at Fionn MacCool's at the Jacksonville Landing. One of them fatally stabbed him.
The suspect, 28-year-old Matthew Hinson of Jacksonville, was taken in to custody at the scene, police said in a statement.
Pettry's wife, Karen Hunt Pettry, shared her grief on her Facebook page:
"Some idiot has taken his life. I'm so mad, just don't understand why, very lost right now.
Please hug the ones you love because you never know if tomorrow you will have that chance."
The investigation is ongoing. A news conference at the Jacksonville sheriff's office is scheduled on Monday.
