BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Dozens of people came out to the Habitat for Humanity's ReStore Saturday to do their part to help raise awareness for affordable housing.
Everything in the story was marked off. All proceeds for the event go toward building more houses in the community. The group celebrated world habitat day on Monday .
Habitat has made an impact on the housing crises by building 500 thousand homes
world-wide. Here in Baton Rouge, the Habitat built over 280 homes, impacting the lives of over 1,000 individuals.
"A lot of our home owners are single mothers," said Terrilyn Hannan with Habitat for Humanity. "They are in deplorable housing that they are renting for way more then they actually spend once they own a home. They get a much better neighborhood and a sense of community. "
The United Nations established World Habitat Day in 1985 to spotlight the need for adequate shelter worldwide.
