BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — FEMA wants everyone impacted by Hurricane Isaac to be on the lookout for fraud.
The agency said that ever since the cleanup began there have been reports of people posing as inspectors, building contractors, even those asking for donations.
FEMA says it's always a good idea to check the background of the person you're dealing with. Just last week several people in Central were scammed out of hundreds by someone saying they were from a tree removal service.
FEMA warns people to be especially careful with people who ask for money upfront before they perform a service.
The agency has set up a disaster fraud hotline at (866) 720-5721.
