BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — This is a big month for Ryan Chenevert.
The Baton Rouge native will get his results from the bar exam next week. Then he will learn if he has been named Bachelor of the Year.
Chenevert is Louisiana's representative in a national contest run by Cosmopolitan magazine.
He says a friend from school nominated him because she was mad that their friends had nominated someone else. He says he never thought had a chance to be picked.
Chenevert works for a judge's office in Gonzalez, and said the judge was one of the first people to congratulate him.
Chenevert says he is shy by nature, so flying to New York for his photo shoot was a surreal experience.
"It kinda looks funny," he said. "I'm ascending out of this pool; you know, it's pretty ridiculous that anybody would actually do that. I feel like it was my Baywatch moment."
This is the eighth year of the contest, and Chenevert said he wants to be the first man from Louisiana to win.
His advice for women looking to land their own bachelor: be confident.
"Don't be afraid to approach a guy," he said, "because if they're anything like me, I'm, like I said, as shy as they come, so it takes a lot for me to go and approach a girl."
Voting started this week, and runs until October 18th.
