Baton Rouge, LA — Former governor Buddy Roemer told an audience today to focus more on what the candidates will not say.
Roemer made a bid for the Republican nomination this term, but his candidacy didn't get very far.
In a speech to the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge today, he talked about the amount of money being spent on this election.
He said both Obama and Romney have taken too many donations from special interests, but they'll never say how it affects them.
"They do not want you to know. I'm glad that I ran for president with little chance to win - I was free to fail,” stated Roemer. “I was free to say what I believe, not what would get me elected."
Roemer said he thinks people should be able to donate as much as they want, but there needs to be public reporting.
He believes that would help voters know why candidates behave the way they do.
