CHICAGO (WGNTV) — A veteran Chicago police officer was released on bail Friday on charges he had sex with a prisoner he'd promised to release from a police lock-up.
Officer Nelson Stewart, 59, faces felony charges of custodial misconduct, official misconduct and bribery.
Prosecutors say it happened at the Harrison District police station on the west side in June where the alleged 29-year-old man was under arrest for prostitution.
They also say the two men performed sex acts on each other and that the victim later reported the incident to police.
Stewart is relieved of his police powers and is performing civilian desk duty within the police department.
