CENTRAL, LA (NBC33) — In Central city leaders say someone is still targeting victims’ weeks after Hurricane Isaac.
Officials warn that someone knocks on the door saying a tree in the yard was damaged and needs to be cut down. They promise to bring the tree to the curb and have the city take it away for free. But the city doesn't haul away trees cut down by contractors. By the time the victim realizes it, the tree is on the curb and they're out the money they paid to have the tree cut down. They'll also need to pay themselves to get the tree removed.
“It always seems that after a major event there are always people looking to make money off those types things of things and its unfortunate its like that in our society,” David Barrow, City of Central, said.
Barrow tells NBC33 that the city of Central is looking into the complaints. So far, there's been no word on if there's a suspect in these scams.
