LAFAYETTE, LA — A Lafayette Parish Inmate being held on charges out of Florida died on Thursday, Sept 27, at University Medical Center.
Scott Hewel, 53, with a resident address of Scott, LA was arrested on Monday, Sept. 24 by deputies for an outstanding Broward County Florida warrant and was awaiting extradition proceedings.
On Thursday at around 10:40 a.m., he complained to Lafayette Parish Correctional Center Staff members of chest pains. Hewell was transported to University Medical Center at 10:49 a.m. Hewel was pronounced dead at 3:08 p.m. Thursday.
The Lafayette Parish Coroner is conducting an investigation in conjunction with the Sheriff’s Crimes against Persons Unit to determine the exact cause of death.
