NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Lower 9th Ward is now home to one of the best indoor skate parks in the nation, with a little help from local hip hop artist Lil Wayne kicking things off.
The local Grammy award winning rap artist says' he's helping turn his passion into reality, "I thought why don't I share this passion with my city. I figured why not do it here in the Lower 9th Ward where Katrina hit the hardest."
Once Lil Wayne cut the ribbon officially opening the new venue, it was time to skate.
The plan is for this skatepark to serve as a New Orleans destination for action sports enthusiasts.
The new Lower 9th ward skatepark was constructed using recycled material and runs on solar energy.
Lil Wayne turns 30 years old on Thursday.
