Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Over 150 veterans were on hand today at the Baton Rouge River Center for a job fair to help those who served our country.
More than 50 potential employers set up to help not just the veterans find work, but their spouses as well.
The event, “Hiring Our Heroes”, was hosted by the United State Chamber and the NFL Players Association. Hiring our Heroes has held nearly 300 job fairs nationwide helping over 10,000 veterans find employment.
Many locals out today tell said that today’s event was extremely beneficial and provided valuable resources to help them join the workforce.
"While we are in the military, we are serving the country and protecting you guys,” stated veteran Byron Davis. “When you get out, it is hard to find a job."
"For soldiers that have been in combat, it is very important to get back to normal life. It’s very important for them to get into the workforce and offer those valuable skills that they learned while serving,” said veteran Jennifer Jordan. “It’s something that many people may not have."
Today’s event was part of a campaign that is pushing local business to hire 500,000 veterans and spouses by the end of 2014.
If you missed out on today’s event, stay tuned as more fairs like this one are expected in the near future in the Baton Rouge area.
