BREAUX BRIDGE, LA (NBC33) — A Breaux Bridge man who was shot by a deputy was arrested after he was released from the hospital this weekend.
The Louisiana State Police were called to investigate an officer involved shooting on Wednesday, Sept. 12. Through the course of the investigation troopers learned that the suspect, Laquantin Green, 32, of Opelousas, was shot in the chest by a St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s deputy. We’re told Green was holding a handgun and allegedly engaged the weapon at the deputy, forcing him to defend himself.
Troopers say they gathered evidence to support the claim that Green engaged his gun prior to being shot.
Green was shot once in the chest, and received treatment at a local hospital. He was released this weekend, and troopers subsequently placed him under arrest.
Green was booked into the St. Martin Parish Jail for Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Terrorizing.
